This file contains the Mathpad manual, the Mathpad program, Mathpad's users manual and a list of Mathpad's function keys. Mathpad's database can be opened with Mathpad, but only if the database contains the information needed to produce a Mathpad format file.
If you do not use Mathpad, it is a good idea to download a copy of Mathpad. The files in this archive are copies of the files that are downloaded from Mathpad's web page. These files are protected by copyright laws and you may not distribute them.
Mathpad's copyright notice can be seen in the program. Also, if you wish to distribute the program, you may not copy the copyright notice. The copyright notice can be seen in the program in the file PPL.ppt.
Mathpad's function keys are Tilde(~), Spacebar, Control, Home, End and ScrollLock. Tilde(~) is the Mathpad function key. Spacebar functions similarly. Most people find control and home as usual. End key is the end of the current line. Scroll lock functions similarly to Home.
The database file p.t.mx.db also has the information about the function keys. You can easily download this file to your own computer. You may need to download this file from Mathpad's web page.
Somebody who wants to distribute the Mathpad program should not redistribute Mathpad's database. It is protected by copyright laws and redistributing it is illegal. You should download the p.t.mx.db file from Mathpad's web page and store it in a secure location.
Mathpad comes in two versions: Mathpad Professional and Mathpad Express. The differences between them are described in the Mathpad Users Manual.
Mathpad Professional and Mathpad Express run under Windows, Macintosh and Unix (OS/2 or Macintosh). Mathpad Professional adds MathPad Math Markup Language support. In both versions, MathPad only runs under Windows.
To Open Mathpad:

Mathpad is an executable application. Usually, Mathpad will start automatically when you start your computer. If not, you should go to your Start menu and choose Run. From the Run dialog, type mathpad and click Run.
Mathpad will start when it is asked to. It will open an empty file with no contents. Some times, the program may download information from Mathpad's web page and check if a Mathpad database has been created by someone

Mathpad has five modes:
Standard. As the name implies, the entire screen is a Mathpad canvas. You type in the Mathpad language, and the machine converts it into a Mathpad file. You can also create a Mathpad file by typing text into any other text editing program.  
Type Mode. In this mode, the entire screen is a Mathpad canvas. You type in the Mathpad language, and the machine converts it into a Mathpad file. You can also create a Mathpad file by typing text into any other text editing program.  
Document Mode. In this mode, Mathpad produces a Mathpad document. These documents can be saved as any other format of document, including web pages.  When you save a document, a new file opens. You are free to edit the file in any way that you wish. When you're done editing, click Save to save your file or click Save As to save it under a different name. You can also choose to preview your document, in which case, when you close the document the preview screen appears. This feature is very handy if you're not certain that you have saved your Mathpad file properly.  
Mathpad Programming Mode. Here, you type in the Mathpad language, which is similar to standard mode, but Mathpad does not convert to a Mathpad file. Instead, Mathpad tells the programmer what it wants and the programmer produces a program, which prints out the answer to your equation. Once the answer is printed, you can add additional math to the equation. Click the Mathpad Programming Mode icon to enter this mode.
