Touring Macon-Bibb parks and rec centers

Macon-Bibb County Commissioners and Mayor Lester Miller took a field trip to local parks and recreation centers during their Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday, June 13. At Linear Park in Pleasant Hill the Commission learned that neighborhood stakeholders like the Community Enhancement Authority have been surveying local residents about their needs. The county recently accepted a $1.375 million grant for enhancements in the park that was created by the Georgia Department of Transportation during recent work on Interstate 75. Highway construction split the neighborhood back in the 70s. Commissioners also visited Memorial Park on Second Street, the Frank Johnson recreation center in Unionville, and the Filmore Thomas Park on Log Cabin Drive. Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Director Robert Walker showed the elected officials the work that was done through the 2018 SPLOST and explained future needs to be considered for the next Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. Here are highlights of the tour.
