How much does it cost?
Beginning with version 2010, AutoCAD, on Windows, macOS, and Linux, can be used free of charge in a full “lab” or “enterprise” edition, for which there are special subscription options. However, AutoCAD, on other platforms, is available for purchase as a computer app, and also as a mobile app, from which you can access the software directly from your mobile device.
For Windows users, the cost of a license to use the software is approximately $400, but this price is subject to change. On January 1, 2018, the price of a license to use AutoCAD 2017 was $1,995. (The cost of AutoCAD 2014 was $1,150, and AutoCAD 2013 was $600.)
A full academic license of AutoCAD 2013 is available for $500 and includes AutoCAD Design Premium, AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Electrical. There is also an academic discount for students.
AutoCAD is also available for purchase on a subscription basis, for example, there is a three-month subscription option ($150) for AutoCAD 2010, and a year-long subscription option ($1,500) for AutoCAD 2013.
If you don’t need the full AutoCAD experience, there are “mini” editions that are less than $300.
The free version of AutoCAD also provides access to Autodesk Design Review. This program allows users to quickly view and work with drawings in a collaborative environment (with 2D and 3D annotations and text-based comments), plus it can be used to manage and store multiple drawings and print or export them as PDF, PDF/A-1, or DXF files.

 Undo and Redo: The ability to undo and redo a change from prior drawings. 
 Multiuser editing: The ability for users to view, edit, and save drawings simultaneously. This was made possible by using the Workgroup Edition of AutoCAD and allowing for users to use their own workspace. 
 Object Collaboration: Objects could be shared and a drawing could be accessed simultaneously in other locations.
 Scaling, Panning, and Zooming: Objects were scaled to fit in the viewport. Panning and zooming allows objects to be viewed at a different scale without requiring the entire drawing to be re-scaled.
