The role of education in a global age will be altered and need to be progressively transformative, which can enhance international cooperation and facilitate social transformation (	Kim, 2015	; 	UNESCO, 2013a	), to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The interconnectedness and interdependence of people and places are vastly amplified (	Goh, 2012	; 	Kim et al., 2014	; 	Symeonidis, 2015	; 	UNESCO, 2013a	) and we need an education that can make us one. Global citizenship education targets education that will cross boundaries and turn the world into one community: respecting, caring, cooperating, interacting, and accepting with tolerance and empathy. The principles of transformative pedagogy of GCE can be concretized in classroom activities and practices that promote GCE. Hence, the teacher's role in education will need to be progressively advanced and transformative, and not just merely a transmitter of knowledge.
