Is it possible to catch NullPointerException with a custom annotation?
Is it possible to catch NullPointerException with a custom annotation? I have heard that in some cases when throwing null pointer exceptions you should be using instead
throw new RuntimeException("Internal Error", null);
or should we be catching it with a custom annotation/method parameter?
It seems to me that there would be a lot of redundant code if you had to create a custom annotation for every kind of exception you want to catch (unless there is a better way to accomplish this)?
Am I missing something here?

A proper exception should already be handled with a try/catch or similar. There is no real reason to catch this exception: it is a consequence of something bad happening and, if it were to happen, you should expect the current code to handle it and try to fix it.
If you want to try to do something with this exception, you should check if it's not null, and then check the cause:
if (null == myObject) {
   throw new NullPointerException("My object is null");
}
// optionally do something with the object:
myObject.doSomething();

In theory, you should be able to mark your code with an annotation (@NullSafe) to make sure that null values are handled properly when they occur.   In practice, I've had trouble getting it to work.
The mechanism that I use instead is to check for null myself before processing the value.  Then throw an exception.
