The first AutoCAD was the original "AutoCAD" from Autodesk, which was first released in 1982 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. AutoCAD was released in 1984 as the first CAD software that was able to work on a PC. The AutoCAD "Classic" software was discontinued in June 2010. In 2011, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT software for the Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X operating systems as a low-cost alternative to AutoCAD. AutoCAD LT came in 2 flavors: the Standard version, which is free, and the Professional version, which is priced.
Getting started
Autodesk's Digital Professional Portfolio, which includes AutoCAD and other programs, is a subscription service that costs $14.95 per month or $129.00 per year. Autodesk's Digital Subscription Plan covers personal use of the software, and the Desktop Subscription Plan allows multiple users to access the software simultaneously.
Autodesk sells a software license key that allows the user to run a trial copy of AutoCAD for 30 days. This trial copy of AutoCAD is designed for a single user and can be run on a desktop computer, on a laptop, or on a mobile device. After the 30-day trial period, a license key is required to use the software.
If you are already using AutoCAD, it will run on a new computer. If you are buying a new computer that does not have AutoCAD installed, you can download a 30-day trial copy of AutoCAD from the Autodesk website. After the 30-day trial period, you will need a license key to use AutoCAD.

Functions 
The ObjectARX library is used to export and import files in common engineering formats. It is extensible, with modules that allow Autodesk to add new functionality to the library, as well as add new drawing elements.
In 1992 AutoCAD had 32 commands. In 1995, 64 commands. In 2000, the number of commands was 97, and in 2005, the number was more than 400. In 2007, the ObjectARX library had more than 1800 commands. In 2008, there were more than 2400 commands.
AutoLISP 
AutoLISP is a dialect of Lisp which can be used in the DYLAN script language. It was the most widely used language for customization of AutoCAD, and is still the preferred language for macros and customizing. AutoLISP is a two-phase scripting language: when typing in the interpreter, the programmer is given the option to perform an immediate evaluation of the expression (value); or he can save it as a script file to be executed at a later time.
AutoLISP is also used in certain functionality for the command lines and the drawing objects. For example, there is a command which allows the current layer to be specified.
ObjectARX 
ObjectARX is a library for object-based programming which is used by AutoCAD to support customization. It was first introduced in 2001, and is also an object-oriented programming language. In ObjectARX there are objects which represent entities, such as lines, arcs, circles, etc. Each object has a set of variables and properties which define their attributes.
AutoLISP 
AutoLISP is a Lisp dialect which allows the user to perform programming tasks. In order to do so, the programmer must define a function which he will use. AutoLISP uses variable scope and dynamic scoping. It also has a range of looping capabilities, including the ability to iterate through the object list.
