Illustrator is the program you need to draw vector artwork
For the most part, it is fine to think of Illustrator as the design tool of choice for vector graphics. But let’s clarify why we prefer Illustrator for vector illustration.
Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics program, or a program that produces vector art. Many people think that vector illustrations are one-dimensional shapes, like a flat pattern or a series of lines.
However, vector illustrations can include any kind of design, from line drawings to 3D models, and they can be as complex or as simple as the artist desires.
Illustrator is specifically for vector design, and you use Illustrator to create your vector illustration.
You can create a vector illustration without Illustrator. You can use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, or a combination of them. But Photoshop (and Fireworks) is specifically designed for editing and manipulating photos, not designing vector artwork.
You can draw your vector artwork directly into Photoshop, but you will need an application that is designed specifically for vector art design.
A vector illustration in Illustrator is one illustration
This means that Illustrator has the potential to be a powerful tool for any type of illustration. Whether you plan to edit the illustration and use it as-is, or you plan to integrate it into a larger design, you can use Illustrator to draw it.
