Mighty No. 9 is an action-platformer roguelike game developed by the indie team at Comcept. It features retro video game inspired gameplay elements combined with modern-day game design elements. The game was released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch on April 19, 2015.

Gameplay is based on the premise that the player is controlling one of two heroes, the “Captain”, a space pirate turned bounty hunter, or the “Doc”, a bounty hunter droid. While the player is controlling the character, they must venture through different parts of the game’s world to fight monsters, rescue prisoners, or collect items. The player can throw various objects at enemies or obstacles, using this to evade or defeat them. Mighty No. 9 features dynamic environments with destructible scenery and a level editor with which to create your own levels. With this level editor, the player can create a level to be played with or save it as an asset for the game’s soundtrack.
The game's mission structure is similar to that of the roguelike genre. However, Mighty No. 9 features frequent checkpoints, so the player can restart from previous checkpoints and reset game progress if they die or get stuck. It also features a total of three difficulty settings, something the roguelike genre is typically lacking. In addition to the story-based mission structure, Mighty No. 9 features an open-ended, randomly generated adventure mode called the My Room mode. The player uses the power from gathered energy orbs to place and interact with several objects around the environment. A great deal of the game takes place in the environment and rather than the player character's decisions being the focus, it is the environment and actions of the player character themselves.
The player character's abilities are similar to most other games in the action-platformer genre. They include moving, jumping, grabbing, shooting, shooting in different directions, and dash jumping. Mighty No. 9 features melee attacks, such as punching and kicking, with which to attack enemies. The player can also pick up different objects throughout the game, including objects that can be used in the environment and that can be moved
