An ordinary circuit model consists of a mesh of nodes and edges. Each edge is either parallel to the plane of the circuit, or perpendicular. Each node is connected to at least one edge. The circuit is divided into a number of regions, with each region having its own current density. Current density can be calculated at any node and a plot of the density at each node can be drawn.
In Copper Plane Current Analysis, you create a plane with a bitmap image and then use the image to give the nodes different resistances. By changing the size of the bitmap you can alter the resistances of the different parts of the plane. The plane can then be divided into different regions that have different current density calculated.
The edges between the nodes and the resistors determine the direction of current flow around the plane and between the regions.
This model can also be used to calculate surface current density in conductors. A conductor can be thought of as a plane with infinite resistance.
Creating a Model in Copper Plane Current Analysis:
You create a plane by:
Selecting a rectangular mesh of nodes.
Selecting a rectangular mesh of edges.
Changing the thickness of the plane by:
Changing the total number of nodes on the plane.
Changing the thickness of the edges on the plane.
Note:
The resistances of the nodes and the edges must be set.
The model will become transparent and will look like a circuit board at this point.
Editing the Mesh in Copper Plane Current Analysis:
To edit a mesh, select the region that you wish to edit, right-click it and select Edit Selected Region.
After choosing Edit Selected Region, the mesh in that region will be highlighted. The Edit Mesh dialog box will open.
A set of fields is displayed in the Edit Mesh dialog. The fields are:
Edit Mesh: This is where you enter the text used in the name of each mesh.
Location: This is where you enter the axis-aligned location of the node in the node graph.
Width: This is the width of the node in the node graph.
Height: This is the height of the node in the node graph.
Distance: This is the distance (along the axis-aligned location) between the node and the next node.
When you have entered information for all of the nodes you want in the model, click OK.
