A Pastor from Baseco Opened our Eyes

I felt guilt after realizing that the society is really the one responsible for poverty. Although individual actions may contribute to their situation, we cannot disregard the social and political factors of poverty. I may say that I never imagined that many people suffer from extreme poverty. As our formator pointed out, it is not entirely our fault that we are not aware of the harsh truth regarding poverty. We can also attribute this to the mainstream media not being able to connect their stories to the public. 
I hate that there are people not being able to eat 3 meals a day, while waking up hours before dawn for their living. It is not right that these people who work for more than 8 hours a day earn less than the minimum wage while there are tycoons that can sleep the whole day and still make tens or even hundreds of thousand pesos. There is obviously something wrong with the system.
I began to ask myself how can there be billionaires of the world when there are literally many people struggling to survive each day. Should we just accept this reality and strive to be on top with the cost of standing on others’ backs?
My main take away from this is the quote ”Kapag namulat ka, kasalanan na ang pumikit.” Which translates to “once your eyes is opened, it is a sin to close your eyes or turn your back towards the truth."
