PROTEIN-BASED INGREDIENTS

Protein is an essential macronutrient, required in larger amounts in order to maintain a good health. Protein is responsible for the growth, repair and maintenance of our body cells. It is also important for growth and development, especially during childhood, adolescence, and pregnancy. Protein is made up of building blocks called amino acids. There are about 20 different amino acids where 9 of the essential amino acids cannot be synthesized by human body and must be obtained from the diet. Both animals and plants can be excellent sources of protein, such as dairy products, meats, fish, eggs, legumes (including beans and peas), nuts, seeds and soy products.
