4th Annual Get Ready for National Suicide Prevention Week (#ElevateTheConvo Twitter Chat)

Overview: For many of us in the field of suicide prevention, September is our busiest month -- community walks, conferences, fund-raising events and more usually fill up our calendars. This year, due to COVID-19 and many other global challenges, National Suicide Prevention Week (September 6-12, 2020) and World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th) will take on some slightly different approaches. In this Twitter Chat we bring together some of the largest suicide prevention and mental health promotion organizations in the United States and the International Association for Suicide Prevention to share insights and tips to help you get ready for our most impactful National Suicide Prevention Week/World Suicide Prevention Day to date. Questions: Who should participate in National Suicide Prevention Week (September 6-12) and World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept 10)? Why does it matter -- shouldn't we be preventing suicide all year? What is the first step in getting ready? What resources, events and programs will your organization offer to help people get ready for National Suicide Prevention Week and World Suicide Prevention Day? How have you altered your usual suicide prevention efforts due to COVID_19 and the nation's focus on race relations? While many groups want to "raise awareness" during National Suicide Prevention Week and World Suicide Prevention Day, we need to do more -- how can we mobilize people to take action? What are the actions needed at the individual, family, community, systems and cultural levels? What roles do people with lived experience play in suicide prevention: Suicide Loss Survivors, Suicide Attempt Survivors, Suicide Thought Survivors, Impacted Family and Friends? How do we amplify their expertise/stories during National Suicide Prevention Week and World Suicide Prevention Day?
