The steps in this recipe require you to be working in Adobe Photoshop CS2 (in both Windows and Macintosh versions), but the method is also applicable to Adobe Photoshop Elements. In fact, Elements is a product designed to teach people the basics of Photoshop and gives you a lot of the features without all the bells and whistles of Photoshop.
1. Choose File⇒New.
Alternatively, you can choose Image⇒New. Either way, you see the New dialog box.
2. Click the Image radio button and choose a folder where you want to store the image.
3. (Optional) Enter a filename for the image in the File Name text box.

4. Choose a location where you want the image to open.

5. Click OK.
You see the image open in Photoshop. You can view it in either Full Screen or Preview mode, just as you can in Figure 4-1C.
If you want to keep the file, click the Format radio button and choose BMP (Windows) or PSD (Mac) from the drop-down list, and then click OK. If you click Open, you get access to the Organizer window, shown in Figure 4-1D. You can then use the "Organize Files" and "Batch Process" buttons to organize and preprocess images. You can skip the Organizer window if you don't want to use it.
6. Open the Organizer window and click the Organize Files button.
You see the main window (as shown in Figure 4-1E) listing the contents of the folder where you stored your image. Photoshop's Organizer tool comes with a unique way to filter the files based on several criteria. For example, you can decide which types of files to keep and which to discard.
  You can save a lot of time with the Organizer by setting up a list of the files that you work with most and using this list as your filter. You'll learn more about this option on Generating a Fondue of Images. For now, just try to save time while you work by choosing Use Preset Settings so that your settings and filters don't have to be reset each time.
7. Click the Files tab

Photoshop Elements is one of the simpler graphics editors on the market today. Photoshop Elements is a free program and is available for macOS and Windows. It’s user-friendly.
It starts out with a simple default interface. It’s clean, simple, and it’s great for beginners. You can edit and manipulate images in the program, with preset themes, brushes, adjustment layers, and more.
It’s free and anyone can use it. You don’t have to be a Photoshop user to use it.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 for macOS is the latest version. You can use the latest version of the editor if you prefer.
You should note that the program is not for professional photoshopping (for the most part). It’s for simple touch-ups and adjustments for your images.
What is Photoshop Elements?
Photoshop Elements is a simple graphics editor for photographers. It doesn’t have the features of Photoshop. It’s more than just an image editor. You can make simple collages, resize images, crop them, and color correct them.
You can edit images at full resolution, as well. You can make layers that can be filled, sliced, and layered in any order you want.
I’m going to teach you everything you need to know to take your photography to the next level with Photoshop Elements.
You can access the entire program from the Start menu. The Start menu is at the top of the screen. Open the program from there.
The biggest difference between Photoshop Elements and Photoshop is that Photoshop is a professional tool for photoshop purposes.
I’m going to be teaching you how to use Photoshop Elements. Photoshop Elements is one of the simpler tools for photographers.
It’s not exactly the same as Photoshop. It doesn’t have all of the fancy adjustments.
It’s basically a free graphics editor with some of the more complicated features of Photoshop.
