Additional notes:
★ This version is for calculating iron core inductance only. Iron cores contain iron powder and may have other materials mixed with it. This application shows the inductance for 12 different core sizes and 8 different mixes of powdered iron.
★ The method of calculating AL is to use the equation of AL in a core. AL = 2kR/M where k = 2πfL/C and L = total core inductance, R = total core resistance and M = number of magnetic flux links in the core, which is half the number of flux links in a ring or coil.
★ The maximum number of turns specified in the application represents the maximum number of turns that an iron core can take. This is NOT the number of turns in the magnetic field. Please take caution and inspect the numbers before using them in your iron core calculations.
★ The numbers specified are for the air and permeability of the iron in the core. This differs from core material in the actual core. As specified, the actual core materials are non-magnetic powder which increases the inductance of the core. The core permeability has been determined for iron cores.
★ For cores that have permeability close to 1 and low frequencies for low frequency calculations, a very high number of windings will be required. This is shown in the application.
★ AL calculations are performed for the right hand portion of the core only as is shown in the application. This is for convenience and to save space when the application is compiled. However, AL calculations can also be performed for the left hand portion of the core and would result in slightly less windings.
★ Core resistance is not calculated in this application. This is because it is not necessary for the applications use.
★ This application cannot provide resistance values for the winding. These values are determined by the winding

CHICAGO – Zach Auguste has been around the Army basketball program a long time.
He has trained with the team since high school and was the starting point guard during Army’s run to the national championship game in 2011. But as a college basketball player, Auguste said, he was never able to experience the current level of success that the Black Knights have.
“This is the first year I’ve had the opportunity to be on the floor with the guys,” Auguste said. “Just to be part of something like this is huge.”
As a five-star recruit from the 2013 class, Auguste was the perfect fit for the ideal Army basketball team. His skill set was well-suited to a system that attacks the paint and takes on the game’s best with a run-and-gun approach.
Yet the transition from high school to college has not always been smooth.
Army was ranked No. 2 in the preseason 2013-14 Associated Press poll, but finished the season with a loss to Yale in the semifinals of the Military Classic in New York. A poor performance against Iona in the first round of the NIT left the Black Knights ranked No. 13 in the nation.
The team’s issues are more than typical growing pains. Army has achieved a top level of success with a unique style of play that is not currently a staple of the college game.
