Macon-Bibb County took steps to secure Robins Air Force Base, moved forward with Rosa Parks Square renovation and cleared the way for downtown development at Tuesday's County Commission meeting. Commissioners entered into a partnership with Bibb County Schools and the Central Georgia Joint Development Authority to allow Georgia Power to build a Battery Energy Storage System on about 12 acres of the solar farm off Ga. 247 in the base's encroachment zone. Stafford Builders secured the $2.5 million contract for long-awaited enhancements to the park across from City Hall. No one spoke out at a public hearing on abandoning and closing the right of way behind City Hall to make way for a six-story apartment building with retail space and a parking garage.
