OpenFX is a set of open source software tools for 3D modeling,
animation, rendering and compositing. The project aims to provide a
complete software suite to the 3D artist and designer, where end users
can combine OpenFX with other applications and software modules in order
to automate their pipelines and boost their creativity.
Some key features of OpenFX include full rasterization/raytracing,
support for curve-based modeling and NURBS, kinematics-based animation
and morphing, full skinning support, VOP scene caching, robust plugin
management system, tool-based creation of NURBS curves, a 3D modeler
based on a very scalable UI approach, object and camera tracking, full
compatibility with Microsoft Windows as well as other operating
systems, full integration with the Internet and a robust and

OpenFX 0.4.0 has been released. This release will be focused on
refining the open source development code base and maintaining a solid
release schedule, along with bug fixes and improvements. This version
is targetted towards developers and evangelists who wish to start using
OpenFX for their projects. A few new features include robust server
caching and serving of 3D scene content, SVR and global illumination
lighting, a full raytracing scene cache and management and a new
geometry import/export plugin. Many issues have been also fixed in this
