Macon-Bibb Commission 4-4-23

Macon-Bibb County will review speed limits and will ask the Georgia Department of Transportation to do the same in an effort to make roads more pedestrian friendly. Commissioner Elaine Lucas, who organized the Pedestrian Safety Review Board in 2015, said speed is a common denominator in the county's pedestrian deaths. Reducing speeds could save lives, she said. Commissioners also approved several new street light locations to improve visibility. Commissioners also accepted grants from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for various specialty courts and approved money coming from the Georgia Department of Transportation and matching some of that funding for work at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport. Several alcohol licenses were issued, including one for 20's Pub that includes special requirements placed on owner Tim Obelgoner, who had his license pulled after deadly shootings near his old Thirsty Turtle bar downtown. Here are highlights captured in tweets from the debate, which include public comments against the planned fare hike for the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority.
