STEAM in Elementary Schools

"STEAM is an instructional approach that blends science, technology, engineering, and/or math with art to provide learners with an inquiry-based interdisciplinary approach to learning" (Rinio, 2020). This is a collection of resources that can be used by school librarians, teachers, and even parents to help support STEAM education. As shown by the variety of resources available, STEAM encompasses complex and very simple activities. The outcome remains the same; students gain academic knowledge, life skills, and even socio-economic skills by completing these tasks. Students must have time to explore and problem solve and these resources will help facilitate those experiences. STEAM areas are often called Makerspaces in school libraries. These Makerspaces are not all equal and need to be tailored to the patrons using them.
