Macon-Bibb Commission 10/1/24

Macon-Bibb County will finance renovations at Middle Georgia Regional Airport with up to $20 million in revenue bonds from the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority. Commissioners approved initiating the bond process for the new High Note Aviation fixed base operator facility to service non-commercial aircraft and passengers. Former Macon police officers and firefighters will see a 3% cost of living adjustment in January and NewTown Macon has the county's blessing in applying for a $300,000 Georgia Department of Natural Resources grant to enhance the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. Commissioners accepted other law enforcement grants, agreed to purchase new Ecourt software, arranged for HVAC vendors and added some new positions on the county's organizational chart. While most items received unanimous approval, three commissioners voted against honoring a Black Confederate fifer with a plaque in Rose Hill Cemetery's Soldier's Square, but the measure passed 5-3. Commissioners reappointed members of the Macon Transit Authority and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission and agreed to soon swear-in commissioner-elect Stanley Stewart to fill the unexpired term of Elaine Lucas in District 3. Lucas, who is running unopposed for Macon Water Authority, addressed her colleagues, as did Stewart at the start of Tuesday's board of commissioners meeting. Here are highlights from the proceedings captured on social media.
