Having never played or read an entry in the Atelier, or Gust series before, I felt like there were only a few games I'd be eager to experience. This release was the cherry on top of my purchase, and I'm extremely glad I bought it.It's a slick action RPG with visuals that keep up with the play, and story/plot elements that deliver the same level of fun, but done with a ton of fun. There are few times in life where I actually pick a game up and get into it and completely lose myself, and I feel that it's one of those times with Atelier.The game is easy to pick up and play as the controls are very responsive. The battle system is easy enough to understand that you'll be able to get your first kill in no time at all. The only criticism that I can level is that the game seems to have some sort of limit on the amount of time that you have to complete the game. I won't say how much time you have to play, but it was not that much more than a typical RPG, and if you're like me, you probably don't have that much time to play games.
Things happen slowly, and there's more build up than excitement. It's not an in your face experience, it's a quietly charming experience. It's like a musical, you have to use your ears and eyes to create the atmosphere, and it's all beautifully rendered. This is the kind of game that takes you for a ride, but it's a ride you'll never forget.
Gungrave ReviewIf I were to give this a perfect score, I'd want to banish the review to the forgotten annals of cybernetics. Instead, I'll take a more realistic approach, and simply say that it's a good game. Not a great game, not even a great game. It's good. It's a good game. The closest you'll probably get to a similar experience is Assassin's Creed, but whereas Assassin's Creed is much easier, and has a much better combat system, it's also much more simplistic, and actually harder. This isn't a bad thing at all, just something that's different.
At its core, this is a game about revenge. You're not doing this for any other reason. I've never been a fan of
