Teacher Librarian Professional Philosophy Statement
My vision as a teacher-librarian is to empower students to achieve full potential and lifelong learning success through access to quality resources for personalized learning for 21st Century Learners.
I use Future Ready framework to develop evidence-based practice and collaborate with stakeholders to design a library program tailored to their needs. My teaching philosophy supports FR goals for collaborative leadership, personalized student learning, and personalized professional learning. As a Future Ready Librarian, I teach, lead, and support students through my practice, library collection, and programs.
I see my teaching role as a facilitator for students learning through collaborating, co-teaching, and participating in curriculum development. My goal is to create a personalized learning environment for all students that supports AASL’s Project-Based Learning principles, where the students collaborate, learn from failures, and acquire social and reading skills. Student-centered learning based on FR framework includes STEM centers, makerspace, and career-focused projects. Project-based learning allows students to experiment with technology and empowers them to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, designers, creators, and lifelong learners.
My role as a librarian does not end on empowering students. As an expert in information literacy and technology, I can lead projects to transform my community. Through community collaboration, we can create a participatory culture and support students’ access to resources beyond the library budgets. By creating a school library website and organizing free educational resources online, I can curate the school's digital resources. My collaboration with teachers and students relies on asking for library ideas in surveys, e-mail, and conversations. Creating a shared file in Google Drive, where users add resources and ideas, creates a virtual community, and empowers personalized learning.
By advocating for the library through community outreach, and leading professional development, I engage the community and show the value of a professional librarian. Collaborating with public libraries can expand students’ access to digital databases and ebooks. The college robotics team can introduce students to robotics. After I invited the Women’s League for storytime, they donated books to the library. By collaborating with local organizations, I can increase student and community engagement, and access to learning resources.  
As a teacher-librarian, I support students, teachers, and the community through planning library spaces that promote collaborative teaching and learning. As a technology expert, I encourage a transition to digital learning by creating participatory school websites. By designing innovative spaces, such as makerspace, I encourage collaborative student-centered learning and effective technology use. Makerspace equalizes access to tech tools, creates equitable learning opportunities, and improves learning outcomes for students.    
I use Design Thinking to collaboratively create a library to meet the needs of my community. A crucial tool for an effective design is an ongoing assessment. Evaluating includes reading evidence-based research, conducting users’ surveys and observations, collecting and analyzing data. Does my library support the curriculum? Does it help English Learners? My role is to evaluate the services and respond to changing needs. Last year, I completed a long-term collection development project for our 3rd-5th-grade school. I used the Follett Collection Analysis tool to weed irrelevant materials and bring the average reading level of materials to the 4th-grade level. The district changed the school to 2nd-4th grade this year, so I am expanding Easy Fiction to accommodate new users.
Education trends and library users change. A flexible librarian responds to changes. I use Future Ready tools to develop evidence-based practice and create a learning environment to support students’ academic and personal development. As a life-long learner, I seek improvement by joining professional networks, such as AASL, FRL, and online Librarian Groups, where we share ideas for designing library spaces that empower students to become independent learners for life.
