Macon-Bibb Commission 5/7/24
Macon-Bibb County's mayor and commissioners unanimously urged Congress to make Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park the first national park in Georgia. During Tuesday's meetings, they also approved hiring Carter & Associates to begin preliminary work on the proposed East Bank development to prepare for an influx of tourists and boost east Macon through the Tax Allocation District that requires tax revenue to be reinvested in the area. Commissioners also doled out nearly $390,000 in Community Development Block Grants to provide a variety of services for struggling families and nearly three-quarters of a million in SPLOST dollars for street repairs, including repairing Mead Road. Three of nine alcohol license applications were denied and commissioners accepted Homeland Security money for firefighter equipment and set aside $196,300 in SPLOST funds for protective gear. The county approved honoring the late golf pro Jim Hickman at Bowden Golf Course and appointed Leigh Ann Junod to the Board of Tax Assessors. Here are highlights from the meeting captured in social media posts.
