From the Vice Principal
Welcome back to all of our returning students and families and a warm welcome to our new students and families who are joining us this year. We are so happy and excited to have your children be with us at LVS. We hope that all of you had a safe and healthy summer break and are ready to go for this school year. With the shut down due to the pandemic it has been almost half of a year that we have seen your children in school. We are grateful that we are able to get back to “normal” and that we can resume getting caught up and learning grade level curriculum. There are many new protocols that we must follow due to the pandemic and we appreciate your cooperation and support. We would like to welcome the following new staff to the LVS team: Ms. McConnell (grade 1), Ms. Toews (grade 2) , Mr. Hoar (grade 7), Mr. Kopytko (grade 7), Ms. Tymchuk (grade 7), Ms. Ludman (grade 7, Ms. Menzies (Resource), and Mrs. Adamson (resource).  Let’s have a great year together!
Looking for ways to give your child an advantage to start the year? Consider these tried and true tips:
Enough sleep. Please ensure that your child gets enough sleep so that they feel refreshed and alert to learn. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine this is what each child needs for sleep every night:
School-age children (5-12 years): 9 to 12 hours
Teenagers (13-18 years): 8 to 10 hours 
Eating well (for children and families)
Start the day with a healthy breakfast. 
Let kids help plan and prepare 1 meal each week.
Eat together as a family as often as possible.
Take time eating, and chew slowly. 
Eat more vegetables and fresh fruits.
Eat more whole grains. 
Drink plenty of fluids.
Turn off all technology at least 2 hours before bed.—Electronics affect melatonin which is your sleep hormone. When melatonin is interfered with, you have trouble getting a good night’s sleep.
Let’s all work together to make this a memorable and awesome year at LVS. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and the office for questions, concerns and to share your child’s many successes with us. We are all a team when it comes to educating our children and we excited to be able to work in close partnerships with our families and school community.

Lunch Procedures
Students should only stay for lunch if there is no other alternative for them. This is because the noon hour is when we have the least amount of supervision and we must keep our cohorts(grades) apart.
Students who go home for lunch are asked to stay home and return to school at 12:55 everyday. The reason is that we cannot have students from different grades playing together in the playground due to social distancing and keeping our cohorts apart. Students who stay for lunch, must stay at school in their cohort for the entire lunch hour.
Parents, if you drop a lunch off for your child, please make sure that it is labelled clearly and ring the front doorbell to drop it off.
