Ah Orientation, where do I begin. Orientation has definitely been one my most meaningful involvements. I served as an Orientation Aide (OA) for two years (s/o Fauquier 3rd Upper ‘18-19 and Griffin C ‘19-20) and was one of the Orientation Area Directors (OAD) for the Green & Gold Village this year. When I first applied to be an OA, I did it, in all honesty, because I knew I had a lot of energy and it looked fun. I quickly realized, however, how rewarding it is to help new students with their transition into college. Orientation helped me fall in love with W&M at a time where I was still struggling to find my place. The resources we’re able to provide and the sense of community we build during Orientation solidified to me that W&M is a place where people genuinely care. Making the the first pandemic-style Orientation happen as an OAD was a stressful experience to say the least, but it could not have gone any better considering the circumstances. Shoutout to the amazing team at First Year Experience (@wmfye), my fellow OADs, and my incredible staff for pulling off such an unprecedented situation. I also want to shoutout the new OADs that were just hired for next year’s Orientation! Even though this means I’m officially washed up, I know you all are going to do such an amazing job. -Kylin (@kyliinn) #williamandmary PS: the Tik Tok at the end is the full version of what @court.barr gave you a taste of last week. Enjoy!
