AutoCAD History
AutoCAD's history is closely intertwined with the history of computer graphics, so much so that its "official" history is a history of CAD history, rather than an Autodesk history. There was no CAD software for personal computers until the late 1970s. Early computers that were able to run CAD software were much slower and less powerful than today's desktop computers. In 1977 a family friend of the Scirgli family, a noted company in the computer graphics field, taught the Scirgli family how to use his graphics workstation for creating engineering drawings. Because the hardware was so powerful and flexible, and the software was easy to learn, the Scirgli family founded Autodesk Inc. to produce a similar workstation for the home market. That workstation was AutoCAD. Although initially AutoCAD was produced for a larger market than today's personal computers, the early personal computers like the Apple II, introduced in 1977, were still in the early stages of development and were unable to run the powerful AutoCAD software.
AutoCAD's name is an acronym for "Automatic Computer-Aided Drafting". AutoCAD is a "dynamic" or "scalable" 2D CAD system (that means that you can zoom in and zoom out). It supports a variety of graphics representations. It was originally designed to be a drawing tool, rather than a DFM ("design for manufacturing"). In the early 1980s AutoCAD was a cutting-edge product, but in recent years it has been squeezed out of the market by 3D applications like Maya and Solidworks. Today AutoCAD is used mainly to draw and generate 3D models.
Before AutoCAD, most CAD programs ran on mainframe computers, each operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal. In the 1980s many engineers started working on CAD on their desktop computers. A few CAD programs were developed for personal computers, but they were usually specialized to a specific task (like PCB designs). AutoCAD was designed to be a general purpose CAD system for the desktop. As AutoCAD was primarily designed for the desktop, most of the drawings that you can export can be traced or "annotated". In order to trace over drawings, AutoCAD introduced support for layers that could be turned on and off in order to make it easier to work on drawings. in 2013, Autodesk announced that there would be no official new product lines, instead moving toward supporting existing products for several years. Although Autodesk previously published a statement saying that the plugin had a "proven business case", at the time of the announcement, there had been no official public release of the plugin for nearly 10 years, and its functionality had been supplanted by other products in the Autodesk landscape. The official announcement on the status of the plugin stated that all new features had been deferred to add support for AutoCAD Crack 2013 and beyond, while fixing several important bugs and incompatibilities.
On 10 March 2013, the company announced that it was discontinuing Autodesk Application Suite, and that the Autodesk plugin for Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD would be discontinued as well.
Autodesk 360 is a data management and cloud-based platform offering on-demand collaboration and data collaboration tools. It is available in three tiers and has an API for data exchange and data interchange and facilitates data sharing through a web portal. Autodesk 360 competes with Microsoft OneDrive.
Autodesk 360 is available as a free product, or Autodesk offers paid subscriptions for more advanced data management features. Autodesk 360 has at least a dozen desktop and web applications. Autodesk announced a public beta program for Autodesk 360 on 15 April 2017.
AutoCAD 360 was a website platform, launched in December 2008, that allowed users to create and share drawings and other content. AutoCAD 360 was discontinued on 28 November 2013.
Autodesk also offers a product called 3ds Max for AutoCAD and other applications. Originally known as 3D Studio Max, 3ds Max is a 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and rendering plug-ins used to create content in Cinema4D. The software is owned by Autodesk, a division of the French company Dassault Systems.
