Kangwon Land, the only casino resort in Korea that can offer bets to locals, will offer a 10-day emergency ban system applicable to problem gamblers from Jan. 1, which can be requested by family members via email or fax. The system is open to all foreign players as well as Korean citizens.

If a gambler's immediate family member or gambler's grandparents send a request to the resort via email or fax to ban the individual from the Kangwon Land Casino, the 10-day entry ban will be activated "immediately."

In order to activate the longer ban, family members must submit certain evidentiary documents by mail or visit in person within the temporary ban period to explain longer exclusion cases.

Individual problem gamblers seeking a ban can only achieve this through posts or in-person interviews at the resort under current protocols.

For a family member seeking a ban of more than 10 days on a problem gambler, the relative may choose between a one- or three-year ban on that person or an "irrevocable permanent" exclusion.

Gangwon Province officials explained that the purpose of the temporary ban through e-mail or fax is to reduce the economic losses faced by families of problem gamblers and to enforce the resort's casino access control rules.

Until now, Kangwon Land has activated a family request ban on problem gamblers only after they apply by mail or by private visit. Requests via email or fax were not possible.

According to a company official, 55 problem gamblers received a restraining order from Kangwon Land from Jan. 1 to July 31 this year.

Kangwon Land Resort is located on a remote highland in the east, three hours by road from the capital, Seoul.
