Manga is simply defined as a style of Japanese comic book and graphic novel - but the art form has many subsets, genres, creator-specific styles, target audiences, and other nuances to explore. Manga can be aimed at either adults or children, often divided into age categories, commonly shonen (for young boys), shojo (for young girls), seinen (for men), and josei (for women). 
However, people of all ages and genders read all different types of manga, both in Japan and across the world. Manga can take the form of a broad spectrum of genres, including (but not limited to) Fantasy, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Sports, Mystery, Horror, Romance, Historical, Science Fiction, and more.
Typically, manga is printed in black and white (though some full-color manga does exist) and are usually serialized in manga magazines in Japan (often published weekly or monthly). Chapters of specific series are then later collected into tankoban volumes and republished (usually as paperbacks, but hardcover editions do occur). Popular manga may receive animated adaptations called anime as well.
