One Connection to Media Manipulation
During the first Prezi of this class, we learned how journalists and media can distort and manipulate truth and importance.  We also learned how language is a very important tool that can influence how people think, and what they choose to believe.  Take news headlines for example which are often used as attention grabbers and sometimes include misleading information.  In March 2020 of last year, the Associated Press ran a story with the headline "Boy, 17, with coronavirus dies as cases surge in California."  Once opening the article, the first sentence admits that health officials were unsure if he died because of Covid-19.  In comparison, the J.D. Power award we see in the commercials acts as the headline, grabbing potential customers' attention to see their car in a positive light.  Once looking deeper into it, people would be able to see that many other cars won the exact same award and that the award is not highly respected.  The Associated Press understands the power language has when it uses the words "boy", "coronavirus", and "dies", the same way J.D. Power uses words such as "reliability", "durability", and "performance."  Words like these have the capability to mislead people into believing something is only part of the story.
