Do I need AutoCAD?
AutoCAD, based on its current version, Autodesk AutoCAD 2019, is a licensed software package that has evolved from previous versions and that is required for the creation of engineering, architectural and construction drawings (CAD).
Whether or not you should purchase AutoCAD depends on how much time and money you need to spend on CAD. AutoCAD is a complex software package that is designed for use by CAD professionals. You need AutoCAD to produce architectural, mechanical and electrical CAD drawings. If you create CAD drawings for a home, a small shop or a small business, you will not need AutoCAD.
The minimum user license price for AutoCAD is $1150. The user license price for AutoCAD 2019 is $750.
If you plan to use AutoCAD to generate CAD drawings, you will need the following items:
Your AutoCAD setup file. Your AutoCAD setup file is a folder on your hard drive that contains AutoCAD files and the AutoCAD application. You need to transfer your setup file from your computer to your computer's hard drive.
A graphics card (if you don't have a graphics card, you can still use AutoCAD). A graphics card is a component that makes it possible for you to see your drawings in 3D. A graphics card is also required for the design of some non-CAD elements of your drawings.

While you can use any keyboard to create CAD drawings, you will most likely use a keyboard that is compatible with AutoCAD. AutoCAD works only with the most popular keyboard manufacturers and most keyboards are designed to look like a CAD keyboard. Some keyboards have built-in numeric keypads to help you calculate formulas, numbers and letters.
Mouse. The mouse is the standard method for moving the cursor on the computer's monitor screen. A mouse can also be used for drawing.
CAD software. A graphics card, a keyboard and a mouse are not sufficient for creating AutoCAD drawings. You will also need to install CAD software.
