During my observations of my cooperating teachers' classes, I noticed that they use formative assessment, such as having students answer the questions displayed on their screens. Teachers can also play wheel of fortune, have an online quiz using online application tools, or have a google exit form where teachers send google form links to the chatbox and instruct their students to answer the given problem found in the form because it will serve as both their attendance and their takeaways. I can say that they used it correctly, but it is insufficient due to time constraints. Due to the same issue mentioned above, they sometimes do not conduct any formative assessments in their class.
Actually, there are other ways or strategies on how to conduct formative assessment without taking too much time. Some examples are:
*Simple Dipsticks - it is when you pause your virtual lesson periodically for quick check-ins. Have students assess their understanding on a 1-to-5 scale, or by asking them to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down to determine if they are ready to proceed to the next topic.
*Digital Journals - it is where the teacher has to create an online journal for each student using a virtual platform.
*Elevator Pitches - it is when you let your students summarize what they know in only 1 to 2 minutes.
*Get Creative - it is where the teacher asks students to share what they know using poetry, songs, drawings, or drama.
*Peer-to-peer Assessment - it is where the teacher builds classroom relationships by assigning each student a virtual buddy for the week, and having them evaluate each other's work.
