Macon Violence Prevention efforts explained

Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and county commissioners hosted multiple service agencies Tuesday to give a report of activities for Macon Violence Prevention program's first year and $4M investment. Additional grant funding is possible through the Community Foundation of Central Georgia once recipients share their findings with the foundation. Bibb County Sheriff David Davis also reported on crime statistics and results from the Shot Spotter technology designed to alert authorities when possible gunshots are heard. Senior Assistant County Attorney Michael McNeill also informed commissioners on the crime reduction results from the closing for several nuisance properties in the community. Here are highlights through live tweets during the two-and-a-half hour meeting and a brief summation of the county commission meeting that followed, including public comments about crime in the county.
