SQL Server database statistics in a stand-alone sharepoint farm
I am looking for solutions to allow my customers to have the ability to monitor Sharepoint databases, SQL Server databases, and database statistics - something like performance monitor for SQL Server, but not as a resource-intensive application.
I am not looking for a solution that retrieves the statistics directly from the database, but rather retrieving it and reporting it to the customer via an API, thus giving them a much cleaner interface than trying to access the databases directly.
I would really prefer to have the solution run as a standalone application (thus being scalable and not needing farm solutions to make it useful). I've seen a couple of projects related to this on codeplex, however, they seem more like a tooling solution, and not reporting, and I want something that can have very minimal interaction with the Sharepoint Server and SQL Server. 
The main requirement for this is to be able to have reports that are dynamic and up-to-date, so that they can easily be updated whenever there is a change in the databases, and show any failed transactions or exceptions that the databases threw. I.e, a detailed snapshot of SQL Server that I can have access to.
