I use AVG for my main laptop which is not on my main account and want to make sure that the antivirus and firewall is still active even when I'm not logged into my main account. It seems that there's an option in AVG's main window that controls the active protection but I can't find it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Afer you logged in as main account using AVG, you can logout and then start over.
Then, go to: control panel > system and security > manage protection settings > advanced options > add logon > next, click 'logon' tab > type your main account user name > next > all other options > next > apply and close
You might be better off with third party for antivirus. There are lots of others. My favorites are...
AVG, Bitdefender, Norton, Avast and Avira.
