The problem was solved by updating my driver from the original state. You can also try to do this in this order:

I am trying to get a simple enum to work in Visual Studio 2010. I am using a union to store an int and a string, but the Visual Studio compiler (Version 8.0) complains with the warning: "warning C4785: restricted union case (enum)".    
The code:

The error:
warning C4785: restricted union case (enum)
How can I fix this issue?

The VS compiler error message says it all.  You can't have a union with a string.  By definition, an enum is supposed to be constant, so it can be used as a type.  A union is just a storage container, not a type.
Either choose the enum type over the union, or else just make
