This book came into existence as result of the fact that the author speaks on such modules as business development strategies and effective leadership, entrepreneurship development and wealth creation(Tools and Strategies), basic customer service skills for entrepreneurs. customer care for entrepreneurs etc at different seminars, workshops, training programmes and conferences etc targeted at entrepreneurs who are essentially the operators of Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises(MSMEs).I actually have a lot to do with operators of MSMEs.I train and coach them and I render financial advisory services to them. This book is one of the modules I teach. Specifically , I was invited by Young Catholic Professionals of ST. Mary’s Catholic Church , I solo .Lagos to speak on Business Development Strategies and Effective Leadership during their Success Summit in August, 2014 with the Theme-Entrepreneurship and Business Development .Business Development is an integral part of marketing. If an individual and organization establishes a new business , there is need to engage professional business developer. There is need to create awareness of the new product/service. The product/service should be marketed through networking, attendance at events, sales promotion, internet presence, going to exhibition to introduce the product or service. There is need to know about strategy, its meaning. definition and types of strategy. Management writers usually define strategy in their own ways but their definitions have similar meanings. Here , we have defined and highlighted different types of business strategies that can be adopted so as to enhance sales. Again. we have marketing strategies and they are usually developed from 4ps of marketing or marketing mix-elements of price , product , promotion and place(Distribution).There is migration from 4ps to 7ps which includes price, product, place(distribution), process and physical evidence. There is also migration from 7ps to finally 14ps.It is important to note here that business development originates in the private sector and has as its focus the identification of business opportunities in the market place. The goals are generally to generate profits by creating businesses to take advantage of market and business opportunities and for many self-employed Nigerians, to create jobs. The businesses are located where they can best generate profits .And because the beneficiaries of business are usually individual owners and/or investors, business development usually originates in the private sector. Products are tangible. You can see them, feel them and usually sample or test drive them before you buy. Services, on the other hand, are not. It is only after a service has been performed for you that you know if you like it, can see how it works, and you are able to decide if it will solve your problem or produce the results you are looking for. There is an old saying in marketing, 'People do business with people they know, like and trust. Again, we have discussed extensively about leadership. Effective leadership is crucial in an organization whether new or old.We have dwelt on different concepts of leadership which include the servant leadership, 3Ls of leadership, 5 levels of leadership, effective leadership, what leaders do, how to become a leader, leadership styles etc.
