S4 Qualifications - the Growth Curriculum
Fraserburgh Academy S4 Curriculum is made up of:
Programmes of Learning - S4s study 6 in school courses at levels 3, 4 or 5 according to the stage of the learner. 
Most courses are ongoing assessed 'Level 5' (or 4 or 3) which means learners can accumulate a qualification over the course of a year. This approach also maximises wellbeing and enables teachers to match the content of learning to our regional industries
Some courses are end of year examined. These are the traditional 'National 5' and we have retained these for subjects which our partners at Universities and NESCOL have advised are crucial for future progression - N5 English, N5 Maths, the N5 Biology, Chemistry & Physics, N5 Engineering Science, N5 Metalwork & Woodwork.
Some learners study L5 Craft Maths 1 & 2 - which is entered by NESCOL and is their industry standard L5 Maths preparation for careers in engineering, construction, health care services and so on. L5 Craft maths is ongoing assessed and contextualised maths. L5 Craft Maths is also the starting qualification for Modern Apprenticeships, such as at SCORE Group or Gray & Adams.
Learning in Context & Projects
Most learners use their LIC time on a Monday & Wednesday afternoon for a College course.
Some learners use this time for extended work placement
A small number remain in school to complete Employability qualifications and engage in wellbeing and industry sampling experiences
Some learners engage in Electives on Fridays to develop transferable 'Meta Skills': Self management, Social Intelligence & Innovation.
Personal pathway
All learners are encouraged to develop their personal learning via our extracurricular programme, and utilise the Thurs & Fri afternoons for personal achievements.
