Granger was already an experienced developer of applications for the TRS-80. He developed AutoCAD for the Amstrad CPC at the home of his parents in Sutton, a suburb of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Granger worked on the product in his spare time from December 1980 to January 1981. After the completion of the programming, Granger began to work full time on the development team and sold AutoCAD on his own as a service to Amstrad users.
AutoCAD 1.0, as originally released, was programmed in 7,000 lines of source code, written in assembly language on the Amstrad CPC. This was rapidly updated by Granger.
AutoCAD 1.5 and 2.0 were written by Martin Wyatt.
Version 3.0 was the last major release of AutoCAD on the Amstrad CPC.
