Commandos shoot, train, and play video games while covertly investigating suspicious activities in a Bangkok suburb. (See trailer below.) The drama was inspired by a real-life incident in which two Indian commandos intercepted a drug-running group in Thailand in 2003. In a daring mission that was documented by the BBC, they seized some 90 kgs of methamphetamine and the leader of the gang was arrested.
Pooja Chopra and Vidyut Jammwal have been shooting the film in Bangkok since last November. The second trailer has been released.
Commandos is the first project for Chopra and Jammwal after a successful run with 2013’s Band Baaja Baarat.
Chopra, who has acted in films like 2012’s Aashiqui 2, has worked on indian movies like Bappu: The Warrior and Company, has worked in Bollywood films like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Wazir. Jammwal, a graduate of film school, has acted in Delhi Waiting and Sister, Mother, Sistern.
Shooting has been smooth and the cast, including Ishaan Kumar who plays one of the lead roles, is uniformly convincing. The film, though not without its flaws, could still be a fun watch.

The International Film Guide Awards were held recently in Germany. The news that one of the three main awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor) went to a movie made in Bangladesh – Jodi Breakers, a film made by women – came as a surprise. The film was also in the running for the other two awards and for Best Asian Film.
In a now deleted tweet, Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wrote, “Congratulations to all the winners of the international film awards.”
The film, directed by Mira Dewan, was a critical success, which led to its International Film Festival Awards, where it won Best Debut Film and Best Film.
The film tells the story of three sisters, whose lives are torn apart when a man arrives from abroad to claim the inheritance.
Jodi Breakers also won the Asian Movie Award for Best Debut Film in 2015.
