What is good health and wellbeing?

Sustainable Development Goal 3 aims to ensure health lives and to promote healthy living for all.  This is easier said than done as there are many factors that affect health and wellbeing.  As individuals we make lifestyle choices such as eating healthily, drinking plenty of fluids, exercising and avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking or drinking alcohol.  However, our choices are also be influenced by factors outside our control such as poverty, local infrastructure and unequal access to healthcare or clean water. SDG 3 has specific goals in place to achieve the overall aim. These include reducing infant and maternal mortality, ending the AIDs, tuberculosis and malaria epidemics, and strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted huge disparities in the ability of different countries to cope with and recover from its impact, which has also affected the implementation of the goals to achieve SDG 3.
