While AutoCAD LT will allow you to create 2D drawings, I would recommend that you purchase AutoCAD Professional if you plan to create 3D drawings and/or you are creating drawings for a project that requires more than 2D drawing capabilities.
Here are a few tips before you start a new drawing in AutoCAD.
Select the active layer
When you start a new drawing, AutoCAD will place a default layer in the drawing. AutoCAD calls this layer the current layer.
Normally, you will only work with one layer at a time, and that layer is called the active layer. When you select a layer by clicking on it in the drawing area, you are making the current layer the active layer.
For example, if you were using a tablet, then you can use the left mouse button to select a layer while drawing with the stylus. In contrast, to select a layer in AutoCAD LT, you use the keyboard shortcut D.
