File Router Product Key monitors one or more paths on the hard drive. Filenames will be moved to appropriate locations based on patterns specified in the mappings area.
Source: The directory to watch for changes. You'll probably want to set this recursively for subdirectories.
Move: The destination location.
Pattern: Type in one or more patterns that should be matched to move the file. The comma is the logic separator. For example, ".avi,.wmv" would match all.avi and.wmv files.
Destination: The destination directory where the file should be placed.
Remove: If you remove a row from the list in the Mappings area, remove the matching pattern from the list to the left. You can always add another one if you need to.
Expression: A statement in the form of "MATCH [INPUT] " WHERE [CONDITION]" that should evaluate to true.
Example:
a. In the Source field type "/Users/myUsername/Music/".
b. In the Move field, type "Movies".
c. In the Pattern field, type "My files should be in Movies" and click Add.
d. Select a row in the list and click Remove.
This creates a mapping called Movies which matches the whole string "/Users/myUsername/Music/", any file with that pattern is automatically moved to the Movies directory. You can then create new mappings to use the Movies destination.
Let's say you already had a mapping for this file. If you tried to create a new mapping with "/Users/myUsername/Music/", File Router would overwrite your previous mapping with the same key, killing the new mapping. That's why you need to remove from the Mappings list first, so you can add the new one.

How to Install
File Router is available free from MacOS Forge. The following directions will walk you through the basic setup and installation. Other tutorials will be shown when enough responses have been received to make this section the main point of reference.

The resulting file pattern is an arbitrary string. In my test code, it's always "pattern_file_directory_extension" and I'll call that an "actual pattern".
This technique is similar to File Zipper except that there is no named destination. All the files are moved to the same location. Also, since File Router uses regular expressions, the source path doesn't have to be where the destination is.
Why Windows Needs File Move Enhancements
Sure, this is a small project for what would be a sizable open source project but it's still a problem. With this project at least, there's some precedent. I've heard of other applications with similar features, and my email (and Internet searches) also reveal others with a wild variety of features. One has the ability to scan Windows XP for specific patterns and move files to folders with specific names. If you want to keep track of files by pattern (or whatever), the can do this in a stripped down form with Windows XP's new File Explorer utility.
Here's an example. You've got 100 photos, and you want to find a new folder to store them in. Rather than trying to remember the names of every subfolder, you can just use a search. You start with the Photos folder and type "p*.jpg" in the find box. You hit enter and File Explorer will search for files that match the extension and store them in an existing "p" folder. If there's no "p" folder yet, you'll get an error saying you can't store the file there.
Why not just include a File Router in Windows Explorer? Well, for two reasons. One, it's a 2x3/80KB project. Downloading extra software should be the last resort. Well, that's not entirely true. The first thing you should download is anti-virus software, because there's a lot of sketchy software floating around the Internet.
The second reason is that it requires subdividing file activities for every file filter. You'll have a different UI for "any file", a different UI for "all images", and a different UI for "pdf files". It doesn't make sense, just like it doesn't make sense to have a different app for "all videos" and one for "all
