The case was brought to the Prophet who suggested that she might not be subject to the penalty for theft. The Prophet (PBUH) responded: "The nations that lived before God destroyed you for their punishment of people for their crimes and allowed their famous people to be unpunished for their crimes. I swear to Him (God) that He keeps his life and my soul in His own hands that even If Fatimah, (the daughter of Muhammad) had committed the crime, I would have cut her hand off. "That was the norm of equality and justice, that was applied without discrimination based on relation, religion, race or creed during the time of the Prophet (PBUH).
