Exploring Air with Young Children
We often do not recognize how air is used in science and engineering design. This training helps participants develop a practice of science inquiry, especially physical science concepts that can be explored through open and focused exploration of air. Participants will explore many ways that air can be used to move objects and use the process of re-design to improve tools that use air. We will discuss how young children commonly interact with air, how to support children’s developing understanding of the properties of air and how to use this understanding in the classroom. The session addresses how even infants begin to explore scientific phenomena as they experience the world and offers activities for up through second grade.
