Install and Upgrade HPC Pack 2008 SP1 using the HPC Pack 2008 R2 Bootstrap
Using the PPS_HPACK bootstrap is recommended for a failover cluster with a single PPS_HPACK server.
Installing HPC Pack 2008 SP1
To install HPC Pack 2008 SP1 on each node in your cluster, follow these steps:
Install the Bootstrap on the PPS_HPACK server (or PPS_HPACK server-in-a-box) for the cluster.
Obtain the Bootstrap XML file and files from an external location, and copy them to the PPS_HPACK server.
Start the Bootstrap by running the BootstrapSetup.cmd file in the HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP1 installation folder.
The Bootstrap runs the HPC Pack 2008 R2 Installation script, which install the latest patches and fixes for HPC Pack 2008 to the server.
Note A) This process is a one-time process for all nodes in the cluster.
Note B) The Bootstrap will also copy files from the Bootstrap server to the servers in the cluster.
Note C) The Bootstrap copies the Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2 service pack installation folder to the HPC Pack 2008 R2 server, and adds the bootstrap folder to the PATH environment variable.
Uninstalling HPC Pack 2008 SP1
To uninstall HPC Pack 2008 SP1 from each node in your cluster, follow these steps:
Use the Bootstrap to uninstall HPC Pack 2008 R2 from the server (or servers in the cluster).
Use the Bootstrap to uninstall the HPC Pack 2008 R2 service pack from the bootstrap server.
Start the Bootstrap by running the BootstrapSetup.cmd file in the HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP1 installation folder.
Note A) The Bootstrap will also copy files from the Bootstrap server to the servers in the cluster.
Note B) The Bootstrap will reinstall the HPC Pack 2008 R2 service pack, but not all the patches and fixes to the original HPC Pack 2008 R2.
Note C) The Bootstrap will delete the HPC Pack 2008 R2-related files from the HPC Pack 2008 R2 installation folder.
Note D) The Bootstrap will also remove the bootstrap folder from the PATH environment variable.
