Algorithmic Composer is a handy MIDI software application that enables the creation of unique, dynamic, multi-track sequences.
Version 1.0 is a MIDI sequencer, and effects mixer, enabling you to combine over 25 effects in real time, sequentially create time-based MIDI events, or instantly manipulate objects on screen with the mouse. It can be used to create both “live” events, as well as play back pre-recorded MIDI files, and has unique waveform display and input capabilities to allow you to zoom in and out of the patch.
It can be used to create either “live” events or as a sequencer, and you can control how they are manipulated using the mouse, an external controller, the MIDI input device and the computer’s MIDI software.
Algorithmic Composer can produce up to 32 tracks, and each track contains up to 128 events.
The patch contains 16 objects that can be used to manipulate and control how the events are created and displayed on screen. The patch is displayed as a three-dimensional window that looks like a robot that is controlled by a single conductor with a mouse and a personal assistant in the form of the “built-in” effects mixer.
A three-dimensional space is produced in the form of the patch by combining the 16 objects. The objects can be grouped or placed into columns to create patch forms that can be isolated and re-arranged.
Each event can have its own velocity and pitch, and the event master object has special functions that can be controlled using the mouse, external controller and the MIDI input device. Each track and event can be saved and restored at any time using a MIDI file, and the events can be saved as individual MIDI files or as pre-defined scenes.
The results of each event can be sent to the outside world via the MIDI output device. You can use this MIDI output as the basis for importing an external MIDI device, or as the basis for a MIDI plug-in. This allows the creation of interesting playback procedures, that vary from completely automated playback to fully controlled software MIDI music generation.
The output can be used for creation of new sequences, live performances, DJ sets, studio recording and live presentations.
