I read a lot of bad stuff about geany. For a while, I hesitated to even install it. But then something changed and I gave in, I don’t know, maybe one day I will remember. Now, I don’t know how I didn’t know about it before. I love it.
It not only does a great job, but is very, very light and small. It’s an amazing thing.
I agree with some other comments, the text editing was very alien to me at first, but with a little practice, I got really good at it.
And the log is great, I LOVE that.
I am starting to learn a bit of python and I am using the eclipse editor. In my opinion, it’s a real slow editor. I like it because it has all I need and also the ability to manage resources like databases, website etc…
You might be surprised at the feeling of relief you get from using an editor that does not get in your way, that does not start up and close itself automatically when you are not working on the document, that responds faster and does not take ages to open files.
I believe that Geany has a lot to offer and I do find it to be a very good ID for all of the languages I have been taught. It does not get in your way, it does what you want it to do and you get it done fast. It has a lot of the features that the big ID’s have, but in addition to that it makes you feel like you are working in the command line, you feel like a hacker, like you are “inside” the code.

For editing, the size of the code window (which shows the program as it runs) is the most important thing to consider. If the code is bigger than that window, it will be scrollable. 
It's not about the number of widgets, it's about how many lines of code you can fit in the window.

A:
I use geany. Generally I use the version from backports.
It's a nice IDE. But the one thing I don't like about it is that it cannot find it's own bugs and post them to the Internet (the bug tracker) for people to have a look at it. It's not a bug, it's a feature, and probably one of the things that makes it so popular.
On the other hand, if you have  a specific program and there's not an IDE builtin for it. Then you're stuck with geany.
