The Dutch startup PlayCast has raised $4.9 million in Series A funding to start commercialization of their O2O streaming software platform. German giants Deutsche Telekom and other public market investors backed the Series A round. This is PlayCast’s first investment and strategic partnership with the German company. The round has also been led by NCVC, PlayCast’s venture investor.
PlayCast is a comprehensive O2O video streaming platform that aims to stream video on demand (VoD) content across multiple platforms and devices to different end users. The platform is available to both the public and enterprise market segments and already works with a number of partners in multiple verticals. With this funding, PlayCast plans to accelerate its growth by expanding into more verticals and meeting increasing customer demand from global enterprises.
The startup’s platform is based on an open and flexible infrastructure that enables multiple third-party providers. The platform’s open APIs allow direct integration of video content, data feeds, and communications protocols. For instance, PlayCast currently offers a cloud-based VoD streaming solution that offers access to Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo, Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, HBO Now, Disney+, and other third-party content.
