1. About the Tutorial
1.1 Overview
This tutorial describes how to install AutoCAD 2019 and use its drawing and data tools. It provides a comprehensive overview of the AutoCAD program and the various drawing tools, which include imported and native tools, annotating and annotating tools, options and design tools, and palettes and drawing tools.
This tutorial is based on AutoCAD 2017. AutoCAD 2019 and earlier releases use a different (and incompatible) file format, so they cannot be opened in AutoCAD 2017. AutoCAD 2019 and earlier releases can be opened in AutoCAD 2016 and earlier releases. AutoCAD 2020 and later releases are based on the drawing and data format of AutoCAD 2016.

AutoCAD [32|64bit]
2D CAD — FreeCAD is a free and open source 2D CAD project developed by Fabien Sanglard. It is intended to become the successor to the discontinued FreeCAD project, and is based on FreeCAD 0.18.
 3D CAD — There are a number of 3D CAD projects out there, such as Blender, FreeCAD, MeshLab, OpenSCAD, and Maya. Maya is a full featured 3D CAD application, while the others are non-commercial workstation-oriented 3D CAD applications.
 Blender is a free and open source 3D CAD application, which is intended to be a free and open source 3D modeller, animator, and effects artist platform. Blender is free software distributed under a free software licence and supports the Blender Artistic License.
 FreeCAD is a free and open-source, cross-platform, C++-based, general-purpose 3D CAD system. It started as a fork of the discontinued OpenSCAD project, and later evolved into a fork of the discontinued Blender project. FreeCAD is actively maintained and has matured into a fully-featured, realtime, general-purpose 3D CAD system. FreeCAD is available under the GNU General Public License.
 FreeCAD is also available as a Win32 GUI application.
 Guix is a free software package management system, based on the concept of a "system administrator", and which uses a module system (à la Linux, unlike RPM and its decedents). FreeCAD uses Guix.
 LibreCAD is a fork of FreeCAD that is not under the GNU GPL.
 OpenSCAD is an open-source 3D CAD application, released under the LGPL licence.
 OpenSCAD is also available as a Win32 GUI application.
 Lightwave is a 3D modeling and animation application. It is distributed under both a freeware and a proprietary model.

 Maya is a professional 3D application, written and marketed by Autodesk, which was acquired by Autodesk in November 2012. Maya is primarily used for creating 3D models of real-world physical objects, including human beings. Maya is also used for the design of virtual worlds and games, CGI work, electronic publishing, animation and filmmaking.
