Instead, the AutoCAD product line has seen a steady decline in perpetual license sales and an increase in subscription sales and annual upgrades. AutoCAD LT, a freeware version of AutoCAD, is now one of the most popular AutoCAD versions.
In January 2017, the pricing model for AutoCAD was changed. With a perpetual license, the software cost $695 and was available for perpetual use. User interface enhancements

In 2016, Autodesk released the Automate feature. The Automate feature facilitates users to create a 'one click' object management system to automate the placement of objects, drawing the bounding box, deleting the object if it's misaligned, changing the line color, changing the color of the text and annotation, and creating fields. The Automate tool can be used with all the main objects within AutoCAD, including text, annotation, and dimension. In the previous Autodesk AutoCAD software, the AutoLISP language was used to write customized code for use in other applications.
In 2018, Autodesk introduced a new version of AutoCAD drawing workflow. This new version is based on the Autodesk Design Review and Design Check functionality. Design Check allows for users to preview and validate AutoCAD drawings at various stages of their development lifecycle, such as sketching and design review, while also notifying the user if the user's drawing is out of spec for any of the design review items. Design Review includes two major components: Review Mode and Design Check. Review Mode allows users to review and edit drawings that are in an open state.  When reviewed in this state, AutoCAD will use an internal, system-integrated set of review settings called the Review Settings Wizard.
