What Photoshop Does
As its name implies, Photoshop is a good tool for adding, erasing, and adjusting layer-based raster images. There are numerous tutorials for beginners on the Internet. There are also video tutorials from major video websites like YouTube, including a tutorial with downloadable links from Your Screen's Training Series. Finally, there are tutorials on how to use Photoshop on pages like Cheapism.com and iMedicalXpress.
Essentially, Photoshop allows you to add, subtract, and shape layers within a digital image. This allows designers to manipulate pixel colors, shapes, and images. They can cut, copy, and paste multiple raster images onto one another, creating new or changed images. They can blend one object against another and even use the full power of programs like the 3D powerhouse, Adobe's 3D Studio, to create objects that appear as though they're real. You can cut and paste objects so that they fit together to create new 3D objects.
Editing an Image with Photoshop
To create an image, you'll simply load up the program and select your file. You can then make changes using the Layers panel to paint away pixels, change colors, rotate objects, erase parts of the image, and clip objects. When you are done, export the image to save it for later editing or editing purposes. You can use any type of format to save the file, but Photoshop favors the native.psd extension. You can use the Save As Type dialog to save the file as one of the many formats Photoshop can save images as.
There are no file compression options to this program as there are to other image manipulation programs like GIMP. This could be a disadvantage to photographers, but many photographers don't consider Photoshop a photograph editing tool and only use it to create images for websites and print.
Photoshop has a few drawbacks that affect its usability. Chief among them is its initial cost. Windows users will need to download and install the program first. You can do this in three ways.
Mac users can find the application through Adobe's site for Macs. (Adobe.com/products/photoshop) Alternatively, they can download the free trial version of the Mac version, which also runs through trials. Their final option is to download the Windows version and convert it to their operating system.

Despite the name, Photoshop Elements is not much less advanced than Photoshop. As someone who has used both professionally and for fun, I can safely say that Elements will get the job done even on a modest level. But there are many more powerful options in more advanced Photoshop versions, and those are the ones I'll be covering here.
A lot of workflows and techniques can be transferred from Photoshop to Photoshop Elements, but your workflow will be a bit different. More commonly you'll use the editing features to fix things that happen in Elements. Such as a lack of crop after you set the camera's focus.

A note on old tutorials:
The reason for this is that the tutorials are written by a design student in 2003. But the features and features that the tutorials are meant to cover have moved on significantly. These tutorials are a guide to the user interface of Elements.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is available for Windows, macOS, and now for Apple iPads. You can find it on the Adobe website at:
Once you download it, you'll find the program on your computer.
It's possible that the program you download is a trial. Then you'll find two options in the folder where you downloaded it:
Artboard Theater
Elements Theater
You can choose the one you like the most. The trial is sufficient for 30 days.
Either way, you get to choose what features you use. So don't worry about the trial.
